In June 2026, the ALiEnS-SOC project reached the halfway point of its 36-month implementation period, marking 18 months of collaboration and development towards strengthening cybersecurity resilience in the European energy sector.
This milestone was followed by the project’s Mid-Term Review in October 2026, during which the consortium presented its activities, results and progress to representatives of the European Commission. The review confirmed that all six work packages are progressing in line with the implementation plan, allowing the consortium to proceed with the next phase of the project.
Launched in January 2025, the EU-funded ALiEnS-SOC project brings together 13 partners with a shared objective: to develop an AI-based cybersecurity framework that will enhance cyber threat detection, analysis and response capabilities in the electro-energy sector.
Mid-Term Review Marks the Next Stage of Implementation
The Mid-Term Review provided an opportunity for the consortium to present the work carried out during the first half of the project, assess progress against the planned objectives and outline the activities ahead. Throughout the first 18 months, partners have worked across six interconnected work packages, establishing the foundations for the development and implementation of the proposed cybersecurity framework. With the review completed and project activities progressing, the consortium is now focusing on the next stage of implementation.
From Building Foundations to Developing Solutions
During the first half of the project, partners focused on establishing the foundations needed to develop an advanced cybersecurity framework tailored to the needs of the energy sector. Activities included analysing the cybersecurity landscape, identifying existing challenges and gaps, defining technical requirements, advancing the development of individual framework components, and establishing cooperation among relevant stakeholders.
Alongside technical development, the project has carried out communication, dissemination and capacity-building activities to raise awareness of cybersecurity challenges in the energy sector and engage relevant stakeholders.
The work completed during this period provides the basis for the next stage, where activities will increasingly focus on further technical development, integration, testing and validation of the proposed solutions.
Looking Ahead: Turning Progress into Practical Results
With the second half of the project underway, the ALiEnS-SOC consortium will continue working towards its central objective: developing and validating an AI-based cybersecurity framework within a national electro-energy Security Operations Centre (SOC).
Particular attention will be given to integrating the developed components, testing their effectiveness and demonstrating their potential to strengthen cybersecurity operations in the energy sector.
Beyond the national context, the project also aims to ensure that its results and approaches can be replicated and adapted by other organisations and energy ecosystems across Europe.
As ALiEnS-SOC enters its next phase, the consortium will build on the work carried out during the first 18 months, with an increasing focus on delivering practical cybersecurity solutions that contribute to a more resilient European energy sector.
